APA Month Music/Film Collaboration: SubtleSkeptics and Kien Lam Photography

Remember the amazing Around the World in 5 Minutes video I premiered the new year with?  The music was composed by photographer Kien Lam's brother, one half of the music collaborative SubtleSkeptics.

The duo are amazing multi-instrumentalists who play covers in interesting places: like the Taylor Swift theme at the Hunger Games premiere below, shot by Kien Lam Photography.

My personal favorite is their renegade cover of fun.'s We Are Young, played at various music stores on high-priced instruments they can't afford until they get kicked out.  William Lam is the cute hipster harmonizing in the Hello Kitty shirt.

June/Gay Pride Music Crush of the Month: Lesbians Who Look Like Justin Bieber

Happy Gay Pride month!

My June music crush is Dani Shay, whom I discovered first on Krispy's blog.  She not only looks but sings like Justin Bieber, except her voice is a little deeper.  Tee.

Dani is first in line of a whole slew of lesbians who look like Justin Bieber.  The facebook group was taken down, which is just stupid, so click the link if you like girls who look like boys.  But let me warn you, these hotties are heartbreakers!

There's even a barbershop quartet of LesBiebers*:

May/APA Music Crush of the Month: Bruno Mars

It may be June, but APA month continues here at Sophia the Writer!

Peter Gene Hernandez is Filipino and Puerto Rican, one of my favorite mixes (Asian/Latin, that is, not specifically Flip and Boricua.)

I was obsessed with his song "Grenade" this month. I-would-die-for-you love gets me every time.

My Playlist and Author Obsessions

I LOVE this week's questions!

Q. What is on your current playlist right now?

Bruno Mars "Grenade"
(hardcore stalkery love gets me every time)
Leona Lewis' latest album
(esp. "Happy")
Jessie J
(this woman is a musical genius)

"If you find a book you love, do you hunt down other books by the same author?"

This is EXACTLY how I like to read.  I become a fan of an author, not of individual books.  Here are some authors that I will read ANYTHING by:

Maria V. Snyder
Alice Hoffman
Jessica Day George
Shannon Hale
Kristin Cashore

As you can see, the genre I author-stalk in is YA high fantasy, which is also what I love writing in as well.

It's Over, Marcus Mumford (Though I Still Love You)

Boyfriend: Did you notice Marcus sings out of the side of his mouth sometimes?
Me: Really? I was too busy noticing how the light makes his eyes twinkle.
This week my boyfriend delivered the second half of his Valentine's gift: a trip to Vegas to see Mumford & Sons.

the keyboardist showing that accordions rock
I had this plan to dress super hawt so that Marcus Mumford would pick me out of the audience to marry him.

Then I found out the concert was outside.  On top of a pool.  (With a cover on it.)

Jeans and a scarf it is.

We were one of the only 2 Asians and everyone was ginormously tall so I mostly watched them on the screen that broadcasts to the Strip.

my future husband
He played the accordion with his tongue and I nearly fainted.

But THEN.

He came back for the encore and he was SMOKING.

It is so over, Marcus Mumford.  ::crying::

It's my actual boyfriend's birthday - we'll be steaking out tonight!

Using My Powers for Good, Not Emo

I'm guest blogging over at A Nudge in the Right Direction today!

I talk about composing music as a facet of creating characters and story setting for my novels.

And how I was emo as a teenager.

Go check it out and support Krispy and Alz!
